Director of the National Azulejo Museum since 2021. Previously, he was a researcher and curator at the same museum (from 1993 to 2004, and again from 2009 on). He holds a PhD in Decorative Arts (Catholic University of Portugal), focused on faience production (c. 1550-1750). He has published various books and articles on cultural heritage, and particularly on azulejos and ceramics. Moreover, he is an integrated researcher at CITAR and a collaborator in other research centres, among which ARTIS-IHA/FLUL, where he coordinates, with Rosário Salema de Carvalho, the projects Az Infinitum – Azulejo Indexation and Referencing System and Cataloguing Portuguese Tile Patterns.
