Francisco Queiroz

With a PhD in Art History from the University of Porto (2003), he is a collaborating researcher at Az – Azulejo Research Network and CEPESE, where he concluded a postdoc in 2014.

Focusing mainly on Romanticism, he specialized in the funerary art from this period and on the study of other typically Romantic art forms, such as tiled façades, decorative metalwork, stuccoes and mural painting. His research covers different periods, with an emphasis on Urban Design and Architecture (erudite and vernacular, urban and rural), and he has lectured on these topics for fifteen years to Architecture students at ESAP. Later, he taught related themes at the University of Azores, as an invited lecturer. In 2011 he founded the group Saudade Perpétua, dedicated to Portuguese Romanticism.

Some of his works are centred on the criteria for intervention on built heritage, the integrated rehabilitation of historical centres and the impact of tourism. He has also conducted research on Photography, Genealogy and Family History and Local History. His work – individually or in collaboration with others – has led to the publication of several books and more than one hundred scientific articles or paper presentations.
