Photographic and Documental Inventory of Portuguese Architectural Ceramics

    Starting date: 2009
    Ending date: 2011

A project developed by the Instituto de Promoción Cerámica (Castellón, Espanha) and coordinated, in Portugal, by Francisco Queiroz and Ana Margarida Portela. Our research group was responsible for a large number of entries, between 2009 and 2011.

Active between 2007 and 2011, this project covered over one hundred Portuguese monuments featuring exceptional examples of ceramic tile applications, from the Middle Ages to the present day. Through detailed photographic surveys and the creation of the corresponding entries, the project aimed to complement a similar inventory already undertaken in Spain and, in particular, in the region of Valencia. The purpose was to provide an Iberian perspective on the evolution of the use of ceramic tiles in architecture.
