Summary:
Our cultural heritage often presents problems of degradation, which solution should pass by the use of non-destructive techniques, for the visualization, characterization, diagnosis and conservation. Among the cultural assets, glazed tiles (azulejos), present in monumental Portuguese Heritage, were selected to be studied in detail in this project by an interdisciplinary approach from art-history to materials sciences. This project intends to develop and combine new and existing research techniques involving the use of neutrons and ionizing radiation to to investigate and preserve objects of cultural heritage.
