Az.thesaurus

Network interactions and knowledge sharing with other institutions, and hence with other information systems, is increasingly dependent on the development of effective modes of classing and recovering data. In what regards the azulejo, this is very much an open field. Despite the existing glossaries, the urgent task of setting up a systematic instrument for controlling and standardizing the vocabulary used in this area filed yet to be accomplished.

Az aims to lay the foundations for a wide-ranging debate on this issue, focusing on the areas it considers to be most relevant and most pressing. With this goal in mind, it has undertaken the Portuguese translation of the Iconclass system and is currently involved in the project Catalogue of Portuguese azulejo patterns.

In 2015, a thesaurus was set up for the field of azulejo studies, divided into three main domains: 1) techniques; 2) materials; 3) pathologies.
