The Az - Azulejo Research Network exists since 2006, under the name João Miguel dos Santos Simões’ Thematic Network for the Study of Azulejo and Ceramics (RTEACJMSS). The Thematic Network was created at the National Azulejo Museu, where it remained until 2009, when it was transferred to the Art History Institute of the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon (IHA-FLUL). In 2015, following the evaluation of I&D Research Centres, it was constituted as a group under the ARTIS-IHA/FLUL and given a new name.
